On September 1962, the Fluxus Internationale Festspiele Neuester Musik (Fluxus International Festival of Newest Music) was held at the Museum Wiesbaden. The organisers and participating artists held creative jobs in the American army as their main source of income. As such, Museum Wiesbaden was selected as the location for the festival since American military bases were located at Darmstadt and Wiesbaden-Erbenheim.
The Fluxus Internationale Festspiele Neuester Musik had an extraordinary programme of 14 unique events held over the course of four weekends. This festival is widely recognised as the inception of the Fluxus movement.
